(eavesdropping on conversations with God)

Show up

Merciful God, we like to invite you into the spaces we occupy – as if somehow we have arrived first into the universe you created. Extending said invitation we suggest that you search our hearts, all while we attempt to hide from ourselves our doubts, our failures, and our self-centered ambitions.

Today God, between emails, in the midst of newsfeeds, before we return to the busyness that masks our boredom, we pause…thinking what might it mean if you answered our prayer that you show up. God, intrude again. Turn our world inside/out the way Jesus did for the first century religious people.

We don’t really know what that might mean…but business as usual is dulling our spirits and eclipsing your good news. So, help us today – to think clearly and wisely about our task to be a community who bring together the revelation of scripture and the witness of the church is such a way that the world takes notice of your presence and seek your righteousness.  Renew a right spirit in us, and as best as we know ourselves, we pledge again, to give you and you alone all the glory, honor, and praise.

So this has been written, so let it be done…
